That’s huge and there’s more. YouTube has become the second largest search engine, blowing past Bing and Yahoo. Jason Potash of VTargeter says that YouTube is “the most underutilized traffic source out there today.” This video sharing site delivers free traffic and using YouTube can net you some huge results.
While everybody is spending (losing) big money on Facebook and Google ads lately, this GOLIATH of free traffic has been highly ignored and what that means is that competition on this internet giant is still 75%-90% less than Google.
Why use YouTube for marketing? Consider this:
- There are over a billion users — almost one-third of all people on the Internet — and every day people watch hundreds of millions of hours on YouTube and generate billions of views.
- Overall, and even on mobile alone, YouTube reaches more 18-34 and 18-49 year-olds than any cable network in the U.S.
- More than half of YouTube views come from mobile devices.
- YouTube has launched local versions in more than 88 countries.
- You can navigate YouTube in a total of 76 different languages (covering 95% of the Internet population).

YouTube now has more unique visitors than Facebook, and utilizing the power of video for your business is huge. In 2011, YouTube had one trillion views. Today, there are over four billion views per day.

- More than half of all YouTube views are on mobile devices. Make sure that your video is mobile friendly.
- Just 10 thousand YouTube videos have generated more than 1 billion views. The key here is to create video that will be shared. What gets shared? Check out #4.
- The user-submitted YouTube video with the most views is “Charlie bit my finger” with over 845 million views. Why did this home video go viral? The two young boys in the video have been called “cute” and “adorable.” Somehow they clicked with millions of people.
- Looking to go viral yourself? Stand out from the crowd with something unconventional or unusual. Not over the top, mind you. The most important thing is to get people to connect with you and your product or service.
- Provide key words that will help your prospects find your videos. Social Media Examiner recommends choosing words that have at least 1,000 monthly impressions on Google

- The best use of YouTube for your business is to use video to introduce yourself and your work to those who will most benefit from it. Provide content that will move your best products to visit your website and capture a sale or an email address there.
- Create a channel page. This is easily done and the first part of creating an effective channel page is to create a landing page with a trailer, something like a trailer that you’d view at a movie theater before the main attraction. Use that trailer to introduce yourself and convince those who view it that you have valuable information for them.
- Always, always, always link back to your website. Your YouTube channel is a driver to your website. Think of your YouTube channel as a billboard that directs people to your showroom. Your website is your showroom – use YouTube to get people there.
