If you are new to internet marketing, you may have never heard of an autoresponder. So, what is it?
An autoresponder is a service that allows you to send one-to-one emails to your email list (see below for posts about the email list that you will create to be successful in online marketing). As you will see under the Recommended Resources tab, I recommend (and use) AWeber. I will explain how an autoresponder works, but first, why do you need one?
There are a number of parts to an internet business and all require your time. An autoresponder greatly simplifies your business and life.
For many if not most sales that happen on the internet apart from huge sites like Ebay or Amazon, there is a process of back and forth between the seller and potential customers or clients. When you first make contact with a potential customer or client, they generally don’t know who you are. Sales are a process and in that process you are introducing yourself to those who will decide whether they want to do business with you (or not). Email is an effective way to make a solid connection.
AWeber, or another autoresponder service, gives you the tools to build your email list and communicate with your list. When you advertise, whether it’s through Facebook or some other way and people respond to your ad, where do they go?
You might send them to the blog on your website (see the post below), but then what? On your blog, you can (and really should put information about what you are marketing, but what if they don’t initially respond to what you are offering, which is typical? An autoresponder is your tool to lengthen the sales process.
First, when people respond to your offer, you need to capture their email address. When you do this through your sales funnel (see post above), you have established what will hopefully be a long and satisfying (for both of you) sales relationship. At first, it is likely that those who have responded to your offer have some doubts as to who you are and whether you can be trusted. The autoresponder helps you with this.
Through your autoresponder, you capture email addresses and you build your list. Second, in your autoresponder, you create a series of follow-up emails that go out to your list. These emails can go out daily, every other day, or some other frequency. The point is that your list will have regular contact with you.
This is all automated within the autoresponder. The autoresponder captures your leads, puts them in a list, and sends them follow-up emails that you have created. Because you are using an autoresponder in your online business, you are cutting down the time that you need to devote to a very important part of your business.
With your autoresponder, you are building a list, contacting your list on a one-to-one basis on a regular timetable, and in time your list will reward you with sales.
