Can we learn internet marketing from the QSR world? Consider this:
Subway tried, but failed. Now Duncan Donuts is there and they seem to be doing pretty well. I’m talking about what is know in the QSR (quick service restaurants) world as nontraditional space. The Subway that failed was followed by Duncan Donuts inside our local WalMart.
What does this have to do with internet marketing? It has to do with how fast your internet business is traveling on the information highway. Are you driving a “beater” (I learned this term from some kids I worked with in the Chicago area) or a souped up dragster? The beater may (or may not) get you to your destination, but the dragster will definitely get you there faster.
Speed is important on the information highway. The key is automation. If you’ve been around this blog a while, you know that I use and swear by AWeber. They’re on my Recommended Resources page for a reason – they deliver. As you grow your business, you need automation to streamline your email marketing; an autoresponder is absolutely essential.
For any newbies, an autoresponder like AWeber is an automated email response system that collects email addresses for you, puts them on a list, and allows you to email that list efficiently. AWeber allows you to create multiple lists and segment those lists for the purposes of your business. This saves you time and effort for your follow-up efforts and is the backbone of any email marketing work.
You don’t have the time to do everything that AWeber or another autoresponder does for you. The time you spend messing with emails is taken away from other important aspects of your internet business.
Subway, Duncan Donuts, Auntie Anne’s and other QSRs have increased their businesses by going where the traffic is. They’ve increased their bottom line by streamlining their operations so they can fit into nontraditional spaces in retail stores, casinos, schools, hospitals – all kinds of places they never dreamed of years ago.
So, are emails part of your marketing mix? Are you using an autoresponder? If not, it’s time to expand your business by adding one.
